The Specific Gravity and Water Absorption of Aggregates are used for the purpose of measuring the strength as well as the quality of the material. On the other hand, the water absorption test determines the capacity of coarse and fine aggregates to hold water.

The specific gravity and water absorption of aggregates apparatus are mainly comprised of a rigid frame, which comes equipped with a water tank that stays mounted on a platform. Specific gravity and water absorption of aggregates is a mechanically fitted lifting device, the function of which is to raise the water tank along the height of the frame. Specific gravity and water absorption of aggregates capacity of 0.1g to 5kg accuracy, which is made available, can also be utilised as a proper weighing device. This density basket hangs on the bottom of the balance for measurement of results and proves to be quite a useful and versatile system of weighing in laboratories.
