The Automatic Direct Shear Apparatus is used for the determination of the direct shear strength of soil specimens. Se-Test India direct shear testing apparatus utilizes a square box divided horizontally into two halves and box containing the sample is placed in a water jacket and subjected to constant normal load while a horizontal force is applied till the specimen fails along the plane of juncture of the two halves.

The Automatic Direct Residual Shear Testing Machine comes complete with: digital control of speed and data acquisition unit; infinitely variable speed drive from 0.00001 to 9.000000 mm/min via servo motor; a wide-screen TFT control unit; 1/9, 1/10, and 1/11 loading ratios; a 5 kN load cell; a 25 x 0.001 mm linear potentiometric displacement transducer (for horizontal displacement); and a 10 x 0.001 mm linear potentiometric displacement transducer (for vertical displacement).
